University of Amsterdam Dental Student Secures Internship with Dr. Bronsky

If you visit our office over the next several weeks, you’re likely to notice a new face roaming the halls: Anne Bo Hattem.

Anne Bo is a dental student who longed for a taste of the Big Apple, so she is interning with us for five weeks. She is interested in pursuing an orthodontics residency after she graduates in January 2014.

As a dental school student at the University of Amsterdam, Anne Bo has been interested in orthodontics since her first year of dental school.

“We have to intern in a dental specialization, such as implantology, orthodontics or periodontology,” she says. “I chose orthodontics because I like the combination of techniques and aesthetic results you get within a couple of years. I like working with my hands, and I want to be a specialist instead of a general dentist.”

Anne Bo chose an internship in the United States because she may want to complete her residency here. In school, she’s been told there are distinct differences between patients in Europe and the United States, she says. Namely, that patients in the U.S. have higher treatment expectations.

She looks forward to observing how Dr. Mark Bronsky works, interacts with patients, solves problems, develops treatment plans and treats patients with aesthetic methods such as Invisalign.

“We’re happy to have Anne Bo here in the office,” says New York City orthodontist Dr. Bronsky. “We have a lot of interesting cases for her to observe, and I hope we help solidify her desire to pursue an orthodontics residency after she graduates.”

This native of Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, started her internship March 29 and is staying with friends who are showing her a great time around the city when she isn’t at the office.

“I love New York so far,” she says.
