Candy Buyback Treats Soldiers And Spares Braces

Candy Buyback Treats Soldiers And Spares Braces

Sticky, sweet Halloween candies are notoriously dangerous for orthodontic patients, so we’ve devised a plan to keep your smile safe and put one on the faces of our American heroes.

Our inaugural Halloween Candy Buyback runs through Nov. 8. Bring us your unopened Halloween candy stash in exchange for cash. With the help of Operation Gratitude, the donated goodies will be shipped to our troops serving overseas.

“The primary goal of our Candy Buyback program is to treat soldiers who aren’t normally able to enjoy these small comforts,” says New York City orthodontist Dr. Mark Bronsky. “On the other hand, it’s a great way to avoid damaging orthodontic appliances with sticky and crunchy candies.”

When you come into our offices, we’ll weigh your treats and give you $1 for every pound of candy for up to five pounds. Anyone can participate! With your help, we can reach our goal of collecting 100 pounds of candy.

Your candy contributions will be sent to Operation Gratitude, an organization that ships care packages loaded with snacks and letters of thanks to deployed military members, their families and veterans. Since 2003, Operation Gratitude has delivered more than 913,000 care packages to our troops.

Donate as much candy as possible, but our sights are set on those goodies that are a danger to your braces. Consider giving away candies that are especially sticky or chewy.

“I advise my patients who have braces to stay away from taffies, caramels, hard candies, gummy treats and candies that contain crunchy nuts,” says Dr. Bronsky. “There are plenty of braces-safe alternatives, though.”

Soft chocolates, marshmallow treats and freshly baked cookies are a braces-friendly alternative patients can indulge in.

Bring your Halloween loot to our TriBeCa or Park Avenue offices Nov. 8 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to participate in the Candy Buy back. Can’t wait to see you!
